Based on a novel by Peter Benchley, Jaws was a massive box office success, becoming the highest grossing movie in history. Jaws won three Academy Awards: Best Film Editing, Best Original Dramatic Score, and Best Sound. In 2001, the Library of Congress selected Jaws for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.
