Perhaps Hitchcock's most consistently entertaining movie, this romantic thriller comprises many of his most memorable set-pieces. The film returns to cinemas in a new restoration, as part of the British Film Institute's UK-wide Thrill season. Often seen as a precursor to James Bond with its thrilling plot twists and witty dialogue, the film stars Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, James Mason and Martin Landau.
Grant stars as the immaculately suited Roger O. Thornhill, a Madison Avenue advertising exec who becomes embroiled in a foreign espionage plot after he is mistaken for another man and kidnapped. Evading the law and the murderous intentions of Phillip Vandamm (James Mason), Roger travels across the United States in a bid to clear his name and solve the mystery, accompanied by the enigmatic Eve Kendall (Eva Marie Saint) – the quintessential Hitchcock blonde.
