NATIONAL CINEMA DAY RETURNS ON SATURDAY 2 SEPTEMBER 2023

On Saturday 2nd September, hundreds of cinemas across the UK are coming together for National Cinema Day.

Cinema-going is one of the nation’s favourite out-of-home leisure activities, and National Cinema Day celebrates every aspect of the big screen experience.

Everyone is invited to come along on the day to enjoy the incomparable sights, sounds and total escapism you can only get from a trip to your local cinema.

Participating sites are offering tickets to all screenings from just £3 – among them, the independent Electric Picture House Cinema in Wotton-under-Edge, which is offering a choice of three films across the day.

First, at 11am, is Disney’s original animated Peter Pan (U). First released in 1953, the film is being re-released for a limited period as part of Disney’s centenary celebrations.

At 2pm, there’s more modern family fun in the current release, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (PG). In this critically acclaimed new animated adventure, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O'Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.

At 7.30pm, the cinema is showing the classic martial arts thriller Enter the Dragon (15). Bruce Lee plays a martial-arts expert determined to help capture the narcotics dealer whose gang was responsible for the death of his sister. Lee enters a kung fu competition in an attempt to fight his way to the dealer's headquarters with the help of some friends.

This electrifying and highly influential action hit turned Bruce Lee into an international icon – fusing a breathtaking visual feast of karate, judo, taekwondo, tai chi, and hapkido. Released just days after Lee's tragic death, Enter the Dragon remains an electrifying tour-de-force on the big screen that has not been replicated since.

Tickets can be booked at www.wottoncinema.com.
